ProviderTalk Group Guidelines

  • ProviderTalk's goal in helping our members, is to create a "virtual" community whose members exchange information, explore new ideas and discuss issues of interest to the group. Every community has standards of behavior that help the community to remain cohesive-online communities are no exception. For example, violating anti-trust regulations, defaming others, violating copyrights, selling, and marketing are not permissible. To avoid even the appearance of such activity, avoid making negative comments about specific organizations or individuals to the group, and think carefully about possible misinterpretations when discussing controversial issues. Generally, the same restraints we use in face-to-face professional conversation apply to a list community. However, it is also important to be mindful of the differences between online discussion technology and informal interaction.
  • Please remember that online discussion technology "lengthens your communications reach" by automatically sending your comments to the entire community of subscribers. What's more, there is no retracting the messages you send.

ProviderTalk Etiquette

  • Do sign all of your communications. Include your name, affiliation, location, and e-mail address. Although you are identifiable by the e-mail address you are using, community atmosphere is more easily encouraged by the use of names.
  • Do reply to all messages about which you believe you have helpful information or advice.
  • Do identify the specific topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
  • Do send a message to the entire list only when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.
  • Do send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals--not to the entire list. Do this by clicking your e-mail application's forwarding button and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond.
  • Do not send administrative messages such as "remove me from the list," to the ProviderTalk Group. Instead, visit our ProviderTalk main page to unsubscribe. If you need to change the e-mail address used by the ProviderTalk, you can do this on this page, as well.
  • Do warn other list subscribers of lengthy messages either in the subject line or at the beginning of the message body with a line that says "Long Message."
